The Boss Lady - Danyell, Wranglers - Ashley and Chase
The inception of Thunder K goes back to 1997. I always knew I would have a ranch or farm of some sort and I wanted a name that would reflect my life and experiences. "Thunder" derived from two reasons: First, it's the sound that is made when horses gallop across the ground. Second, it's a powerful word in itself but I associate it with my time playing the game of football. The "K" is the first letter of our last name. It is also a spinoff of my family's farm and brand, Rock'n K (which has its own story). The "K" has a slight cant to it to mimic my family's brand.
The Thunder K Brand, is a combination of a Thunder Bolt and the letter K. The horseshoe is not really part of the brand but is featured in our logo and represents my farrier work and our love of horses. The Brand is a symbol of our Toughness, Resiliency, Work Ethic, Integrity and Family.
THE BRAND ISN'T SOMETHING YOU EARN, IT'S SOMETHING YOU LIVE UP TO!
We love and live the western lifestyle and culture; horses are a huge part of that. We've been fortunate enough to have the platform to bring and share our experiences, knowledge and passions with everyone so they can enjoy the lifestyle with us.
Danyell was born in Washington state and grew up on a small farm, learning to raise animals and live off the land while riding horses and motorbikes with her friends. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing with her family of Finnish descent along the coasts of Oregon and California. She moved to South Dakota during her senior year of high school, where her journey with all things outdoors truly began.
Danyell served in the U.S. Coast Guard, specializing in Search and Rescue and Maritime Law Enforcement at Small Boat Station Port Isabel/South Padre Island, Texas. Her military experience instilled a strong sense of duty and leadership that she carries into her current roles.
After her honorable discharge from the military, she pursued a career in commercial construction project management. With that experience, she contributed to building mountain town casinos, historical monuments, churches, hotels, and luxury spas throughout Colorado, Nebraska, California, Utah and Nevada.
Danyell holds several degrees including Strategic Marketing from Colorado State University (BA) and Project/Program Management from Southern New Hampshire University (Masters/PMP).
Now based in New Hampshire, Danyell works as a Subcontract Program Manager at BAE Systems, overseeing complex defense contracting processes and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders. Most importantly, she serves as the CFO of Thunder K Ranch, managing financial operations, strategic planning and general ranch activity wrangling.
An avid photographer since a young age, Danyell began capturing local events in high school for her town's newspaper and continues to pursue photography as a professional hobby. Her passion for travel has taken her to various destinations (Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Netherlands, Scotland, England, Ireland, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Panama, Mexico, St. Lucia, Bermuda, to name a few), enriching her perspective and inspiring her work. Danyell is also a certified yoga and meditation instructor, promoting wellness and mindfulness in her community. In her free time, Danyell enjoys spending time with the family outdoors, hiking, and horseback riding, along with many trips to the ocean. She is dedicated to making a positive impact on the people she meets wherever she goes.
I learned to ride a horse (Baby Bull) when I was four years old and have been around horses and riding ever since. My home is in Lempster, New Hampshire on the Thunder K Ranch. I have had the opportunity to live in ten different states including Nebraska, California, Oklahoma, Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, and Connecticut. Living in these different states has allowed me to experience a lot of different cultures, traditions, people and horses. Of course I enjoy anything that deals with horses, but I also like woodworking, shooting recreationally, and being creative with architecture, drawing and art, which probably explains my Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History. Along with my creative side, I am also athletically inclined. I was a member of the University of Maryland football team (Go Terps!) so, naturally, football is my favorite sport. I played soccer, baseball, raced BMX bikes, and ran track and field. In BMX racing, I was the Texas State Champion two years in a row and was the fastest 12 year old in the country at the ABA Gold Cup Champions race in 1987. In high school, I was a four-year letterman in track and field and a three-year letterman in football. Through my extensive athletic career, I was taught to be competitive and disciplined. Before becoming a farrier, I was in the retail loss prevention industry for approximately nine years. Five of those years were spent as a District Manager for a major retailer. Through this experience, I have been exposed to the intricacies of the business world, learning what it takes to be profitable and, most importantly, what is required in providing great customer service.
Being business-minded, competitive, disciplined and artistic helped me in graduating at the top of my class from the Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School. My time spent in Oklahoma was packed with a tremendous amount of experience, both personal and educational. Although going to a farrier school comprised just a short time in my life, my education continues as I attend seminars, lectures and conventions on a regular basis. As the industry is consistently changing and the techniques are being refined and improved, one could spend a lifetime learning and still have just scratched the surface of the amount of knowledge to be obtained as a farrier.
Through my journeys and experiences I continue to share them by developing and endorsing products, training, and horsemanship techniques to help others enjoy similar passions.
